Fuchsia Appeal

NewFuschiaThe Fuchsia Appeal is run annually to raise funds for the ONE’s charitable objects. The main drive of the appeal takes place during the month of July which is the month of the National Day of Remembrance.
The fuchsia was chosen as it is widely grown throughout Ireland and is commonly known as Deora Dé or God’s Tears in the West of Ireland. To this end the Fuchsia was chosen as a fundraising emblem, a badge of remembrance and a symbol to honour those currently serving in the Defence Forces.
Fuchsia Launch
The Appeal was first launched by then Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea TD in 2009 and is now in its 6th year. The appeal fund has gradually grown from approximately €14,000 in the first year to over €40,000 in 2013.
The Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Conor O’ Boyle launched the Organisation of Ex Servicemen and Women (O.N.E) Fuchsia Appeal 2015. The funds raised assist Defence Forces Veterans who have fallen on hard times. Minister for Defence Mr Simon Coveney TD also called into the O.N.E Headquarters lending his support.
Ollie O Connor, Chief Executive of O.N.E. said today, “The Fuchsia
appeal is vital for the organisation. It enables us to help former colleagues
who are having a difficult time and without a home. Many of these people gave
outstanding service to the State and to the United Nations and for one reason
or another have not been able to make ends meet since leaving the service.”
If you wish to donate to the Fuchsia Appeal you can do so through our PayPal account or by downloading our Standing Order Mandate form. No donation is considered too small and all are welcome.
